Glartek and INEGI together to create ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ platform and non-invasive sensors

16 September 2021
Glartek, a portuguese company dedicated to the development of software for industrial maintenance, has partnered with INEGI to build a solution based on the 'Industrial Internet of Things' (IIoT) to speed up industrial maintenance.

The objective is to develop an IIoT platform to capture and analyze data, with the support of non-invasive sensors, which are later displayed to maintenance service operators in an augmented reality interface.

Predictive and corrective monitoring of industrial equipment will become more intelligent and the introduction of non-invasive smart sensors mitigates the current challenges of implementing concepts related to industry 4.0.

As Ricardo Cardoso, responsible for the project at INEGI, explains, "the modularity of the sensors speeds up the process of implementing the IIoT system on the factory floor, and allows sensing equipment without changing them, including older or outdated industrial equipment".

In addition to enabling retrofit, this development also opens the door to digitalization of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry where, according to legal standards, it is only possible to incorporate non-evasive systems like the one that will be developed.

In this context, INEGI is in charge of developing the project's hardware, namely sensors to monitor the status of the motors, without the need for an external power supply, and a camera that reads and extracts information from pressure gauges.

This work is being developed within the scope of the GRS project: Glartek Retrofit Sensors, a co-promotion between Glartek and INEGI. The project is co-financed under Portugal 2020 and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
