WHY THIS PROGRAM

This Mechanical Joining is part of the Advanced Joining Processes Course, which has been created to provide deep and high-level training on the multiple advanced joining processes used in industrial manufacturing. 

The mechanical joining part includes the design and analysis of bolted joints and the process of deformation assisted joining.

  • Design and analysis of bolted joints - includes a general introduction of bolted joint solutions, describes the torque-tension relationship and elastic interaction. Examples are also given on numerical calculation processes suitable to determine tightening specifications of such joints. The effect of tensile loads on bolt tension and joint clamp loads is also discussed. Finally, bolt fatigue and its governing parameters and equations are detailed.
  • Deformation assisted joining - considers information on the design and modelling of deformation assisted joining mechanisms and provides detailed information on the processes suitable for joining tubes, sheets and rods. Information is also provided to the riveting processes.

The training team is composed of Prof Sayed A. Nassar and Prof. Paulo Martins,  both  worldwide renowned experts in their fields. which possess extensive knowledge on the cutting-edge research being carried out in academic settings and also on the industrial state of the art processes.

〉 Format: 11 hours total - 6 hours live-streamed, and 5 hours of video-on-demand

ADVANCED JOINING PROCESSES COURSE  

This course is divided into three parts, dedicated to:

 
Completion of this course will allow for a thorough understanding of the guiding principles behind all these technologies, from the design of the joint to its implementation in a product and in a production line.

Each of these modules has been designed to comprehensively describe the most advanced design methods and manufacturing procedures within these fields, highlighting both the state of the art and future trends.

The training team is composed of worldwide renowned experts in their fields, stemming from both academia and industry. This diversity is crucial, as the course can also act as a vehicle to streamline communication of the latest developments between I&R Centres and industries that use joining methods.

TEACHING METHOD

This program has been designed with remote teaching in mind, ensuring that professionals can attend it with minimal disruption of their work routines. Each of its modules is composed of recorded and live component. The recorded components can be accessed at any time during the course while the live portions will take place at the end of each week and will allow for direct communication with the course staff.
