Offshore turbine blades with intelligent architectures of hybrid and nano-enabled multimaterials

01 November 2020 Project Sheet
INEGI's Contribution
  • Develop semiproducts (comingled yarns) by combining conventional and smart functionalised fibres
  • Produce unidirectional (UD) tapes from the developed commingled yarns which can then be directly used for automated composite manufacturing processes
  • Characterization of developed materials
  • Management of work package 4: intermediate level testing

Results/Impact
  • Significant reduction of life cycle costs while maintaining or improving other performance properties of the solution (e.g. obtained by significant reduction of maintenance cost)
  • Development of materials with optimized materials cost and improved durability, reaching cost reductions for off shore energy production of about 40% of the current value
  • Reduction of environmental impact by 35% (based on life cycle assessment and eco design)
