INEGI signs the Porto Pact for Climate

20 September 2022
INEGI joined the Porto Pact for Climate, an initiative of the Porto City Council that aims to promote carbon neutrality and position the city as a national leader in climate action. The ceremony, where 183 entities signed the document, took place on September 16th.

INEGI's commitment reflects a strategy already underway. With the execution of construction works to expand its facilities, the Institute has been implementing measures that mitigate its carbon footprint - such as reducing plastic associated with water consumption, implementing energy efficiency measures in the building and respective monitoring of energy consumption, and replacing its car fleet with electric vehicles.

But the challenge does not end there and, according to Viviana Correia Pinto, responsible for the Circular Economy area, "INEGI intends to execute in the next 3 years an internal action plan aimed at the implementation of Circular Economy actions,. The objective is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on the road to carbon neutrality, also committing to the necessary measures for the economic and social development of the city in an environmentally sustainable way”.

Also, as a Technology and Innovation Center, being an active member of the community and participating in the innovation ecosystem, INEGI assumes the responsibility of dedicating itself to the transfer of innovation in topics such as the circular economy, the decarbonization of industry, energy from sources renewable sources such as green hydrogen, among others relevant to carbon neutrality.
