Energy diagnosis of BICAFÉ’s industrial installations and feasibility study for the implementation of a photovoltaic solar power plant for internal consumption

At first, an energy diagnosis was carried out at BICAFÉ's industrial facilities, which included the mapping of the various types of energy consumed and of the specific energy needs according to use and/or of each division of the company, namely:

• Identification of the main energy consumers;

• Analysis of the existence or absence of heat recovery in the systems used;

• Definition of the operating regimes of the various sectors of the company;

• Survey of monthly production, hours of operation, number of operators of the various production units, as well as the technical characteristics and respective factor of use of existing equipment in the various sectors of the company.

During a second stage of the project, the historical records of the consumption of the various forms of energy involved were analysed, with monthly breakdown of energy flows.

During a third stage, in order to reduce the company's energy bill, the main areas of intervention were identified in order to rationalize energy consumption. This stage included the establishing of energy balances and the assessment of the consumption breakdown. These energy and mass balances should be made not only according to the global installation, but also regarding each of the sectors and / or services of the company, considering the equipment of greatest consumption and, if existing, energy transformation facilities.

The convenient distribution of energy quantities across the various sections and / or departments in the company under analysis enables the assessment of the relative weights of the forms of energy consumed, promoting a strategy of quick action with the aim of successfully solving the most critical situations.

Within this plan the situations considered less correct from an energetic point of view were identified and appropriate corrective measures were proposed. The proposal of these measures was based on a technical-economic feasibility study, carried out for each of the corrective measures identified, in order to be able to choose those that, in fact, lead to lower costs and greater benefits.

In this project, the plan focused mainly on the feasibility study of the installation of a photovoltaic solar power plant for their own consumption.
