INEGI, Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial, is a research and technology organization, associated with the University of Porto in Portugal. In the context of a significant increase in R&D activity, INEGI is looking to reinforce its Composite Materials and Structures group. For this purpose and within the "FLY.PT” project, INEGI will hire:

Project Title:
FLY – Mobilize the Portuguese aviation industry to disrupt the future urban air transport


The FLY project is mobilizing program, closely aligned with the action plan of the National Aeronautical Cluster (AED Cluster Portugal). Through a set of activities with a high technological content, this aims to address and adapt the industry to the new technological challenges identified in the national aeronautical sector, in order to leverage the competitiveness of entities in the national sector and their insertion (and prominence) in the context International. Thus, it aims at the investigation, development, prototyping and testing of a new concept of modular urban air transport that integrates horizontal mobility with vertical mobility, through the combination of an autonomous electric vehicle with a drone.

Within the project, INEGI, and in particular the Materials and Composite Structures Unit, is responsible for the design and development of structural elements of innovative aeronautical propulsion systems that use superconductors.

The successful candidate will be integrated into a rapidly growing unit and a dynamic, young and proactive team.

The successful candidate will:

·         Analyze requirements, generate potential product concepts, and define validation tests;

·         Selection of materials to be used;

·         Model products in software CAD (Solidworks) and elaborate detail drawings for manufacture;

·         Structural, thermal and other kinds of analysis in software CAE (Abaqus);

·         Define the process manufacture of some elements, considering always the DfM (Design for Manufacturing) of the composites;

·         Identify the process variables, their interdependence and their influence in final product;

·         Design and preparation of molds, tools, and setups needed to manufacture of some elements of the prototype;

·         Prototypes manufacture and static and dynamic tests.

·         Contribute for the project technical reports, patents;

·         Contribute to scientific production.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

·         Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;

·         Knowledge on  CAD and CAE softwares;

·         Interest and motivation in composite materials, their manufacturing processes associated;

·         With or without experience;

·         Availability for national and international travels;

·         Capacity for analysis, critical thinking and goal orientation;

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

·         Ability to work as a team member;

·         Responsibility, pro-active and autonomy;

·         Fluent written and spoken Portuguese and English.
