INEGI, Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial, is a research and technology organization, associated with the University of Porto in Portugal. In the context of a significant increase in R&D activity, INEGI is looking to reinforce its Composite Materials and Structures group. Project Title:
FIBREGY - Development, engineering, production and life cycle management of improved FIBRE-based material solutions for the structure and functional components of large offshore wind enerGY and tidal power platforms.


The FIBREGY project is a European project, which has the overall objective to enable the extensive use of FRP materials in structures of the next generation of large Offshore Wind and Tidal Power (OWTP) platforms by overcoming the associated challenges. In order to achieve this objective, the project will develop, qualify and audit innovative FRP materials for offshore applications, elaborate new design procedures and guidelines, generate efficient production, inspection and monitoring methodologies, and validate and demonstrate advanced software analysis tools. Clear performance indicators will be designed and applied in the evaluation of two existing OWTP concepts to be re-engineered in FRP within the project. Finally, the different technologies generated in FIBREGY will be demonstrated by using advanced simulation techniques and building a real-scale prototype to validate the materials, tools, solutions, procedures and guidelines to be developed in FIBREGY.

Within FIBREGY project, INEGI´s role is to contribute to some activities and tasks of the project and development of an offshore wind platform.

The successful candidate will be integrated into a rapidly growing unit and a dynamic, young and proactive team.

The successful candidate will:

·        Analyse requirements, generate potential product concepts, and define validation tests;

·        Select promising materials to be used;

·        Assess fatigue behaviour and performance of materials;

·        Model products in software CAD (Solidworks®) and elaborate detail drawings for manufacture;

·        Analyse structural, fatigue, and perform other analysis through software CAE (Abaqus®);

·        Optimize a filament winding manufacturing process through simulation and experimental testing, considering always the DfM (Design for Manufacturing) of the composites;

·        Develop guidelines for prototypes production;

·        Design and prepare mandrels, tools, and setups needed to manufacture some elements of the prototype;

·        Manufacture prototypes and validate products;

·        Contribute for the project technical reports and patents;

·        Contribute to scientific production.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

·        Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;

·        Knowledge on CAD and CAE software;

·        Interest and motivation in composite materials, their processes and fatigue behaviour associated;

·        With or without experience;

·        Availability for national and international travels;

·        Capacity for analysis, analytical thinking and goal orientation;

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

·        Ability to work as a team member;

·        Responsibility, pro-active and autonomy;

·        Fluent written and spoken Portuguese and English.

If the academic degree is awarded by a foreign higher institution, the diploma must take into account the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be completed within the tender deadline.
