INEGI, Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial, is a research and technology organization, associated with the University of Porto in Portugal. In the context of a significant increase in R&D activity, INEGI is looking to reinforce its Composite Materials and Structures group. For this purpose and within the "FLY.PT” project, INEGI will hire:

Project Title: FLY – Mobilize national aviation industry to disrupt the future of urban air transport


The FLY project is a mobilizing program, closely aligned with the National Aeronautical Cluster (AED Cluster Portugal) action plan. Through a set of activities with a high technological content, this aims to address and adapt the industry to the technological challenges identified in the national aeronautical sector, in order to leverage the competitiveness of entities in the national sector and their position (and prominence) in the International context. Thus, it aims at the research, development, prototyping and testing of a new modular urban air transport concept that integrates horizontal with vertical mobility, through the combination of an autonomous electric vehicle with a drone.

Within the project the Materials and Composite Structures Unit of INEGI, will design and develop innovative composite structural elements for electric aeronautical propulsion systems using cryogenic superconductors.

The successful candidate will integrate a rapidly growing unit with a dynamic, young and proactive team.

The successful candidate will:

·    Analyze requirements, generate potential product concepts, and define validation tests;

·    Select materials to be used;

·   Model products in CAD software (Solidworks) and elaborate detailed drawings for manufacture;

·   Perform structural, thermal and other kinds of analysis in CAE software (Abaqus);

·  Define the manufacturing process for structural elements, always considering the DfM (Design for Manufacturing) of the composites;

·  Identify the process variables, their interdependence and their influence in the final product;

·  Design and prepare molds, tools, and setups needed to manufacture of some elements of the prototype;

·  Design or re-design equipment and machines;

·  Build prototypes and perform static and dynamic tests.

·  Contribute for the project technical reports and patents;

·  Contribute to scientific production.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

·   Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;

·   Knowledge on  CAD and CAE software;

·   Interest and motivation in composite materials, including their manufacturing processes;

·   Up to 3 years of relevant experience;

·   Availability for national and international travels;

·   Capacity for analysis, critical thinking and goal driven;

·   Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

·   Ability to work as a team member;

·   Responsibility, pro-activity and autonomy;

·   Fluent written and spoken English.
