INEGI was at the “NewSpace Atlantic Summit” first edition
The aeronautics, space and defence sector represents a significant part of INEGIs research, innovation and technology transfer activity. So that, in order to follow the technological and political trends of the sector, as well as the strategic context of the Portuguese government for the coming years, INEGI was at the first edition of the “NewSpace Atlantic Summit” in Lisbon.
This initiative was held at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, on May 28th and 29th, and was aimed at “promoting new markets and skilled jobs in several areas of the economy associated with the space sector” and “deepening the debate on the mini, micro and nanosatellites with emphasis in the Atlantic regions”, said in a press release the FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), which organised the event, together with the Space Frontier Foundation and Ciência Viva – Agência Nacional para a Cultura Científica e Tecnológica (National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture).
The “NewSpace Atlantic Summit 2018″ included themes related to the Portuguese space strategy - National Strategy Portugal Space 2030 - approved by the government in February. The opening session was attended by the Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, the Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology of the Azores, Gui Menezes, the former director of the European Space Agency (ESA), Jean Jacques Dordain, and the CEO of Euroconsult, Pacôme Revillon. The program also included personalities such as Athiye Jawad, executive from Planet, Candace Johnson, President of the European Trade Association for Business Angels, Sarah Cruddas, journalist and space specialist, and Laura Berneri, Communication Director from Thales Alenia Space.
