INEGI supports Roadmap for the Introduction of Renewable Gases in industry

06 December 2022
Following the Roadmap for the Introduction of Renewable Gases in the National Industrial Sector, promoted by Floene, INEGI will play an active role in promoting energy efficiency and the use of renewable gases in energy-intensive industrial sectors in Portugal.

The objective, outlined by ERSE - Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos, is the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge of good practices, methodologies and technologies to promote efficiency and decarbonization of natural gas consumption in production processes.

The measure foresees 5 lines of action: raising awareness, identifying needs and drawing up action plans, dissemination and training, the creation of a digital platform and the assessment of the respective impacts.

INEGI's team of specialists will be in charge of carrying out surveys and energy diagnoses, in order to support sectoral studies, action plans and good practice guides for the incorporation of the use of renewable gases in the target industrial consumers.

"The energy diagnoses will give rise to specific reports per company covered, but also to sectoral reports indicating energy efficiency measures, which increases the potential for replication of actions. Opportunities for introducing source gases will be highlighted through an mapping that will allow industries to leverage the decarbonization process", explains Lucas Marcon, responsible for the project at INEGI.

This project will be presented at the opening conference of this project. The event "Industry of the Future - Roadmap for the Introduction of Renewable Gases in the National Industrial Sector" will take place on December 12th at the Museu do Oriente, also with an online version. This work is part of the Plan for the Promotion of Efficiency in Energy Consumption (PPEC), an instrument to support and develop energy efficiency projects. In addition to INEGI, the measure has the participation of CIP - Confederação Empresarial de Portugal, AIP - Associação Industrial Portuguesa, APE - Associação Portuguesa de Energia, APEG - Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Gás, Biond, APICER - Associação Portuguesa das Indústrias de Cerâmica e Cristalaria, CTCV, Cogen Portugal, Associação dos Industriais de Vidro de Embalagem, AIMMAP - Associação dos Industriais Metalúrgicos, Metalomecânicos e Afins de Portugal, Politécnico do Portalegre, ISQ - Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, AFIA - Associação de Fabricantes para a Indústria Automóvel, APQuímica, AHP - Hotelaria de Portugal, Ordem dos Engenheiros, Ordem dos Engenheiros Técnicos, and AP2H2 - Associação Portuguesa para a Promoção do Hidrogénio.

The measure is funded within the scope of the Plan for the Promotion of Efficiency in Energy Consumption, approved by ERSE.
