INEGI contributes with innovative solutions for the future of the automotive sector
10 April 2023The automotive sector is undergoing profound changes, with the European Parliament having approved a ban on the sale of cars with combustion engines, as of 2035. To position the national automotive cluster in the new global value chains is the motivation behind «Hi- rEV", one of the 23 innovation agendas, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), which has the contribution of INEGI.
This project aims to develop, test and demonstrate a new generation of technologies, processes and products that allow companies in the national automotive cluster to position themselves competitively aiming to build the car of the future.
Ana Reis, responsible for the project at INEGI, explains that "the electrification of the automotive sector brings new opportunities, but also challenges to companies established in the market, where, at national level, there are many companies that manufacture components for internal combustion engines. therefore, it is essential to reposition companies in the sector".
INEGI will therefore contribute with innovative technological solutions and with applied research work, seeking to help business partners to position themselves for current mobility trends, providing "technical and scientific skills that allow the development of more sustainable technologies, efficient, and with better performance for the mobility of the future”, says Ana Reis.
The consortium is led by Palbit, and has the participation of 23 entities including companies, technology and innovation centers, and business associations. It is funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the operational program Capitalization and Business Innovation.
