INEGI contributes to the return of FAMEL electric motorcycles

01 August 2022
FAMEL, one of the biggest motorcycle companies in Portugal between the 1960s and 1980s, is back with new products that were born with the contribution of INEGI.

The new E-XF is fully electric and is inspired by the mythical XF-17, appearing in two models: the Café Racer, for one occupant only, and the Classic, for two.

INEGI's team of specialists carried out studies used in a proof of concept of a replica of the electrified XF-17 that served as the basis for the development of these two new prototypes. For these prototypes, INEGI collaborated in the prototyping of components, such as the tank and seat through 3D Scan and CNC technologies.

Joel Sousa, CEO of the company, points out that "collaboration with INEGI allowed us to quickly build a full-scale model for validation in terms of design. It was also essential all the support in the prototyping of components that integrated the two models recently presented as proof of concept. The next step is the preparation to industrialize until it reaches the market in 2023".

José Bouças, responsible for the project at INEGI, explains that "by supporting this stage of development, we contributed to speeding up the time-to-market, reducing costs and anticipating production problems”.
